Fire at Tata Steel’s Port Talbot plant under control

United Kingdom: Tata Steel said fires at its Port Talbot plant, in Wales, UK, were under control and there have not been any serious injuries. At least three blasts were reported at Tata Steelworks plant in Port Talbot, Wales in the United Kingdom, according to various media reports in the UK.

The Port Talbot site, which dates back to the early 1900s, was acquired by Tata Steel as part of its acquisition of Corus in 2007.

Port Talbot is home to one of the two integrated steelmaking sites that the company operates in Europe. The plant produces hot rolled, cold rolled and galvanized coil, among other types of steel.

“There was an incident at the Port Talbot site and there are no major injuries and all persons have been accounted for. All fires at the site are now under control,” said Damien Brook, a spokesman for Tata Steel Europe.

Early this morning, a series of blasts were heard from Tata’s steel plant at the Port Talbot site in South Wales, The Sun reported.

South Wales Police department said they are aware of an incident in TATA Steelworks plant. “Emergency services are in attendance and further information will be released shortly. Thank you for your patience,” said the department in a tweet.

The police said they received calls at 3:35 AM reporting an explosion at the plant. “At this time we there are just two casualties with minor injuries.
