Amazing non-stop classical dance for three hours

Chennai : In an amazing feat, a class 10 student performed Bharatanatyam non-stop for more than three hours at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan here on Saturday.

For N Pradiksha Dharsini (14), a class 10 student of St Johns Senior Secondary School, Mandaveli, it was a show of both talent and energy. She completed her arangetram at the age of nine and is now a part-time student of Kalakshetra, Adyar. Dharsini learns Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi under Guru Ratheesh Krishna and Sophia Ratheesh at the Rithanjali School of Arts.

Performing non-stop is not new to her. She had already performed for one and half hours at the Kalyana Kamatchi Amman Temples Vasantha Mandapam. Adjudged the best junior dancer in 2010 at the Vasantha Vizha at the Kapaleeswarar Temple, Mylapore, she had also danced in famous temples in Thanjavur, Chidambaram and Guruvayur, sources said.

Her proud father R Nagaraj said, “Bharatanatyam is a tough dance. Usually, dancers take a small break after every performance. My daughter has so much energy that she wanted to demonstrate it by a three-hour non-stop performance. Dharsini danced non-stop for 3 hours and 20 minutes, he added.
