Jharkhand: In an excellent feat of challenging all odds and rising like a star, a 27-year-old visually impaired woman from won gold medal for her master’s course from Ranchi University here on Wednesday.
Sweta Mandal who lost her eyesight in Class 10th is currently pursuing an integrated course in MPhil and PhD at the Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi. Daughter of doctors based in Chaibasa, Sweta’s eyesight started failing gradually and she lost it within a few days.
According to report, Sweta’s mother told that her daughter did not use Braille and it was she who would read and record cassettes for her daughter during free time in her clinic.
Sweta told that she was not trained in using Braille and there were not many books available in it either, she took the help of a text-to-speech software, namely the Johnniac Open Shop System.
Sweta’s mother said that she feels really very proud that her daughter fought all odds with rising spirits and always stayed motivated.
Sweta who wishes to make a career in teaching and research said that she has complaints against the education system and added that mere notifying of rule for students with special needs does not help.
