PM Modi’s Swachh Bharat campaign shamed as elderly couple bitten by rats in first AC coach

Jharkhand: Putting Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat campaign in the back-seat, 71-year-old retired SAIL chief engineer P.C. Sinha who is the resident of Purani Ranchi and one of his co-passengers were bitten by rats in the AC first class coach of the Hatia-Howrah Kriya Yoga Express. The incident happened on December 30 2015. Sinha has now demand Rs 10 lakh as compensation from the Indian Railways for the shameful condition leading to this incident.

Two families on board the New Jalpaiguri-Ranchi Weekly Express had been rattled by rats in AC coaches. After Sinha returned from the trip, he conveyed his story to media.

Sinha said that he with his wife were traveling to a getaway for new year celebration when the mishap happened. He said that a sharp pain woke him up at midnight, thinking of it to be a snake, Sinha woke his wife up but didn’t want to disturb the fellow passengers. Some hours after this, the other passenger also woke up screaming is when all of them called up the coach attendant.

That is when they spotted big rats under the berth. The TTE was at a loss of words. Sinha decided to lodge a complaint with Indian Railways and did so at Santragachhi station around 6am.

Sinha said that he is planning to move to the court against this laxity. Sinha has sought Rs 10 lakh as compensation from the Indian Railways.

This incident comes as a shocker to the cleanliness-drive started by PM Narendra Modi and puts the train authorities in a questionable situation.
