Uttarakhand: An American woman has conned a man from Dehradun, of Rs 16 lakh on the pretext of marrying him.
The victim, Navin Sikand, is a resident of Sahastradhara Road who had retired some time ago from a private firm has filed the complaint with Rajpur police station in this connection, said a report.
According to the report, Navin in his complaint has accused American national Robica Morgan of duping him of Rs 16 lakh. He informed police that he came in contact with her through a matrimonial site in May 2014.
The report further states that Navin and Morgan had started conversation over phone and messages and after some rounds of conversations, Morgan came over to Delhi and the two agreed to tie the knot.
After few months of conversation, Morgan told Sikand that she had some loans to clear and sought financial assistance from him, following which Sikand transferred the amount of Rs 6 lakh in her account in three installments, Pankaj Pokhriyal, Station Officer (SO), Rajpur, told in a statement TOI.
She continued taking to him over phone for three months after he transferred the money but from the past few months she has stopped contacting him, told Sikand to police, Following which he approached police and filed the case of fraud against her.
According to the SO, the woman had assured Sikand that she would bring a “huge sum” along with her when she came to India to marry him.
