Moscow: Indian wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt who failed to win a match at 2016 Rio Olympics will have something to cheer about. Dutt’s bronze medal from the London Olympics may be upgraded to silver after reports emerged that the silver medallist from the 2012 Games, the now deceased Besik Kudukhov of Russia, has been stripped off his medal for using banned substance.
Even as there was no official confirmation on the news, as per Russian agency, flowrestling.org, the four-time world champion and two-time Olympic medallist Kudukhov’s, who had died in a car crash in 2013 in southern Russia, sample tested positive for a banned substance by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
Yogeshwar, as a result who won the bronze medal in men’s 60kg freestyle category in London Games, might now receive the silver medal. Another silver medallist from the 2012 Olympics was Sushil Kumar.
Now, fingers are crossed for an official confirmation from the United World Wrestling (UWW) and the International Olympic Committee. The confirmation of the silver medal to Yogeshwar will be done only when the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) gets it in writing from the World body (UWW).
