Second edition of Canara Union Badminton League taken by Indogas Challengers

Bengaluru: Indogas Challengers won the second edition of the Canara Union Badminton League (CUBL) hosted by Canara Union Charitable Trust at Prakash Courts here on Wednesday.

In the CUBL Season 2 finals, Indogas Challengers defeated Aaroh Smashers 3-1 and bagged the title. In the first game, a fine display by Manoj Rai and Sudhir was the highlight of Indogas Challengers win. They defeated M M Lalu and Nagaraj 21-11, 21-14 in straight sets.

In the second game, Ravee Iyer and Dinu K of Indogas Challengers defeated Niranjan and Bhaskar of Aaroh Smashers 21-15, 21-12 in straight sets.

Aaroh Smashers however restored parity with Dinesh and Sathivk defeating Sachidanand and Krishnamurthy of Indogas Challengers 21-12, 21-23, 21-12.

In the fourth game, Kishan and Ravichandra of Indogas Challengers defeated Uday Rai and Sudha Rani of Aaroh Smashers 21-12, 21-17 in straight sets.

The final result –  Indogas Challengers defeated Aaroh Smashers in the best of 5 games 3-1.

It may be noted that CUBL witnessed the participation of 6 teams – Indogas Challengers, Union Acers, Le Grapes Champions, JP Super Kings, Carpe Diem and Aaroh Smashers. In all, a total of 70 players took part in the tournament, which essentially accommodated all players of all calibre.

Post-round-robin league, 4 teams progressed to super league stage and based on points were ranked in the following order – Indogas Challengers, Union Acers, Aaroh Smashers and Carpe Diem.

Indogas Challengers defeated Union Acers in the qualifier 3-1 to enter the finals, while Aaroh Smashers defeated Carpe Diem 3–2 in the elimination round. Aaroh Smashers defeated Union Acers 3-2 and progressed to the finals.
