Vaastu Shastra is an ancient science consisting of principles for constructing buildings in a way that ensures harmonious relations between humans and the environment, incorporating the five elements, ten directions, and energy. This approach brings about overall health, happiness, wealth, and prosperity.
THE FIVE-CORNERED GAME
The entire Microcosm to Macrocosm relies on the five elements. There should be equilibrium between nature and the human body, creating a conducive environment for health, happiness, positive thinking, and making the right decisions that lead to prosperity and wealth. The algebraic sum total of these five forces determines the Vaastu of a place.
Elemental Energy
Space: Cosmic Energy
Air: Wind speed and direction
Fire: Solar Radiation
Water: Gravitational attraction of Earth
Earth: Magnetic Field of the Earth
Vaastu Followed in Ancient Times
Socrates (470/469 BC – 399 BC) designed a solar city in the hilly section of North Olynthus. He aligned the streets and avenues in such a way that buildings could draw more solar energy from the southern Sun.
The Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro civilizations (2600-1900 BC) employed Vaastu principles in building their civilizations. Key urban planning features in the Indus Valley Civilization align with Vaastu or Vastu Shastra principles, including a Grid Layout, East-West Orientation, Harmony with Nature, Planning for Drainage, Public Baths, and Wells.
Application of Vaastu in the Modern Era
Vaastu is a highly believed and followed science globally, guiding the construction of houses, temples, administrative buildings, shopping complexes, and the planning of residential layouts and industries. Michael and Robin Maestro visited India to gain in-depth knowledge of Vaastu and subsequently founded “The American Institute for Vastu.” They designed spiritual centers for Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and Ravishankar Guruji (The Art of Living). They also designed and built the first Microsoft Building and numerous working spaces for Boeing.
Today, the principles of Vaastu Shastra have been successfully applied worldwide to achieve economic prosperity.
