Sullia: The region is reeling under drinking water crisis and as a last resort, the Town Panchayat has decided to disperse 20 ltr jars of drinking water to people at Rs 10 each.
The jars will be supplied to every household on demand on daily basis and the project has been started from Friday, April 29.

The TP has joined hands with a packaged drinking water company named Pioneer Mineral Water in Adkar.

The market price of a 20ltr drinking water is about Rs 70, but under special consideration, the company has come forward to supply clean drinking water at Rs 20 per jar.

However, the TP has decided to sell the same to the people at Rs 10, while bearing another Rs 10 from the TP itself.

The TP will procure a total of 500 jars containing 10,000 ltrs of clean drinking water for the people.

The ones wanting to get the jars will have to place a deposit of Rs 100 towards the jar and the dispenser. The deposit amount will be returned when the household discontinues the service.

The TP has even opened a counter for the same.

Sullia is reeling under such water paucity that the residents are now being provided with water every alternate days.

An additional 25 hp pump has been installed near Kallumuttu pump house to pump out available water from river Payaswini.

As per sources, the water available in the river is adequate only for a week.

The TP has even sketched out time schedule to pump water into the tank and then supply the same to areas under the TP limits.
