Mangaluru: Continuous efforts along with hard work paid rich dividends to a lad from St Aloysius school in Mangaluru when he scored 622 marks out of 625 in the recently held SSLC examinations thereby joining an elite club of top scorers.

Travelling daily by bus from Ullal to Mangaluru, Sohan had hoped that he could make his school and his family proud one day. But, that day was not too far.

He decided to bring that proud moment at a tender age of 15.

With aims of excelling in SSLC exams, he set his priority right, attended tuition for Mathematics and Science subjects. Rest is history!

He says that he used to study for two hours daily but concentrating in classroom was his key to success.

Sohan, speaking to newskarnataka.com said that all the while, till the results were out, he expected about 618 marks, but 622 has come has a huge surprise. He secured cent per cent marks in Math, Hindi Science and Kannada.

About his ambitions, he says that he wants to become an Aeronautical engineer and wants to design a Light combat aircraft similar to Tejas with advanced features for the Indian Air Force. But, he also has a dream to crack the civil service examinations.

While most of his contemporaries would swear by some cricketers or some Bollywood stars, Sohan says Missile Man of India A P J Abdul Kalam and celebrated scientist CNR Rao are his role models and one day he would grow up to become men of character like them.

A humble boy that Sohan is, talking about his success, he does not forget to thank a few people. This includes his teachers- mainly his Math teacher Gopalkrishna Bhat, his headteacher Fr Edward Rodrigues, Celestine Vas among others.

He says that he could have never achieved what he did if not for the undying support and love from his parents Ashok Kotian and Deepa Ashok, his grandmothers Rohini Karkera and Sarojini Bengre.

His hobbies include philately and drawing. He likes singing and reading technical books related to innovation in the field of science. He enjoys writing essays on topics of social relevance like swatch Bharath and Digital India.

He feels that students should not have anxiety and fear before or during exams. He wants to see his juniors from Dakshina Kannada to excel in the days to come and says that hard work is the only mantra to success.
