Here are the excerpts
1. Tell us how you started your debut movie Rambarooti?
I had written a story to do a short movie. When the producer read it, he thought of making it a big film. So I sat for over three months to write the screenplay and prepared the script. Gradually, one after another technicians joined us and the movie team grew. As the producer was looking for fresh cast, I selected actors through audition. We all were new to this field and we learnt all the aspects of movie production while making this film. There are 5 songs and I have composed tune for four songs along with lyrics and an incredibly catchy rap song is composed by Soumesh Bangera.
2. What are the challenges you faced while directing your debut film?
This is an experimental movie hence we are nervous. Success and failure is common. Till now there has been great response for the songs and the trailer. So we are confident that we will be successful in our attempt. If our hardwork gets justice we will be really happy and satisfied.
3. Since you are a new director, how did the new team support you?
Rambarooti is the product of a fresh team. All have worked hard. We used to shoot at the weekends. So the entire team has given 100 per cent and have worked day and night. So the movie has come out well.
4. What are the hurdles you faced while directing Rambarooti?
For me this film industry is like an ocean and I am a tiny fish in it. So I was really nervous. But with the support and direction by few experienced actors and directors of the industry I have managed to face all the challenges easily.
5. What advice you would give to new directors?
Learn about cinema. Prepare a script by keeping audience’s taste in mind. Focus more on screenplay. We must be careful and think about the producer who spends money for the movie. Make a movie with thorough preparation.
6. What do you have to say about today’s Tulu film industry?
The Tulu industry has had a drastic change and there are changes all the time. ‘Oriyardori Asal’ is the movie which showed us that even Tulu movies have future in competition with other film industries. Tulu industry can now compete with the Kannada film industry. We need to stop remakes and come up with more original films.
7. Any bad experience in the Tulu film industry?
I have not experienced anything as such. But I will tell you one thing, here in this Tulu industry there is no healthy competition. The jealousy among the film makers is really harming the industry.
8. Prajwal, what are your future dreams?
New Tulu movie ‘Tottil’ is at dubbing stage. This is a commercial movie which shows the sentiments of a mother. Arvind Bolar, Umesh Mijar and several other actors are a part of the movie. I have got an offer to make a Kannada movie. Also I will be working for a Tamil movie as assistant director under a popular banner.
