Newskarnataka.com to launch “Life on streets” photo contest

When the camera lens become your eyes, you can capture forever, a precious moment in the life people as they rush through the streets, through life. For every street has a story. All you need to do: Frame it, Shoot it, Tell it!

Newskarnataka.com presents ‘LIFE ON STREETS’- a photo contest open to all that will freeze and capture life as it passes us by on the street. The contest will be launched on July 3rd in the City Centre Mall, KS Rao Road in Mangaluru at 5 PM. The contest will be open for submission of photographs from the 4th of July till August 15th, and the winners will be announced on August 19th.

The objective of the contest is to provide a platform for amateur photographers to showcase their skills and insight – their ability to recognize those emotions that people experience every moment of their lives that make life what it is and to frame, compose and click them in a fraction of minute. This contest and its outcomes, we believe will help create consciousness about the life on the streets – the beauty, joy or sorrow that makes life what it is.

Participation in the Contest

To be a part of this contest all you need to do is submit one or a maximum three CANDID PICTURES. They must be creatively composed in that they capture life on the streets – a face, a moment of life on the street with a brief story line (where when and how) and a CAPTION. SEND IT TO [email protected] with your NAME, Contact details and Facebook Id to enable us link the photograph.

Take note of the following though:

  • The photograph should be original and it can be enhanced but not photo-shopped or manipulated.
  • The photos can be sent in jpeg form and it should be of high resolution. 
  • Photos which infringe on copyrights will lead to disqualification.
  • Photographs with sexual, violent, offensive or instigative content will be disqualified. 
  • All liabilities lie with the photographer. Newskarnataka accepts no responsibility for the same.
  • The photographs submitted for the contest shall not be used or submitted anywhere else.
  • Newskarnataka reserves all rights over the same, without constraints’.
  • Photographs will be displayed on Newskarnataka.com website gallery and its facebook page https://www.facebook.com/newskarnataka/ and other social sites.
  • August 15 would be the last day to send the pictures.
  • The judges will evaluate the entries between August 16th and August 18th.
  • Winners will be first announced on RADIO FM 93.5 around 5pm on August 19th, World Photography Day and the prizes will be distributed the same day, at City Centre at 5pm.

Prizes

One winner and five consolation prize winners can walk away with a cash prize of Rs 30,000 and other goodies. The winning photos will be featured in www.newskarnataka.com and Karnataka Today magazine. The first prize will be awarded 10,000 cash prize, a trophy with a free subscription to ‘Karnataka Today’. The People’s choice award winner will receive a cash prize of Rs: 5000.00 and a free subscription. 5 consolation winners will go home with a cash prize of Rs: 2000.00 and a free subscription.

The Jury

Entries will be judged by an eminent panel of photographers, shutterbugs who have carved a niche and a name for themselves in the field of photography.

Yajna Acharya

Yajna Mangaluru is a household name in Mangaluru because over the last four decades he has been creating magic with lens. His pictures have been adding value to the articles of famous journalists over the last several years. Known for his classic monochrome pictures that have been published in both national and local media over the last several decades, Yajna is a stalwart in the field. He has to his credit the fame of organizing over 100 photo exhibitions and also has a collection of over 300 black and white photos of legendary Kannada poet and litterateur Dr Shivaram Karanth. 

Born in 1948, he is also known as ‘Yajni’. He finished his SSLC at Ganapathy High School, Mangaluru. He joined BGM School of Fine Arts arts when his interest of painting took over. Later he switched to photography.

He borrowed some money from his friends to buy his first camera and then there was no looking back. His creative and artistic pictures have attracted many, far and wide. He has worked for many high profile actors, cricketers, politicians and the list goes on. He was also given the opportunity to take pictures of Pope John Paul II during his visit to Mangaluru.

Dr Akhter Husain

An Orthodontist by profession, his gentle fingers bring calm to people agitated by dental distress, but his nose for the aesthetic and the creative, have led him to photography and art – a combo he calls Art Photography. His love for art and photography has taken him places and also bagged him several prestigious awards.

Creativity has always been a compulsive urge for him since childhood. As a young child, Akhter took inspiration from nature and grew up loving, observing and capturing its mesmerizing spirit in the form of drawings and paintings. His childhood interest in art foreshadowed an artistic future.

Over the years, Akhter has developed as an artist and photographer. Today, because of his zest for experimentation with different techniques, he uses a combination from the best of three worlds i.e. photography, digital technology and traditional paints.

Dr. Akhter has won several National and International Accolades and honors in the field of photography. With his deft fingers that deal with wires and pliers in Orthodontics, paint brushes over canvas or his passion for photography. He sometimes jokes saying “orthodontics is his occupation and art is his pre-occupation”.

Kishan

He is a professional photographer based out of Mangaluru with more than 10 years experience in diverse areas of Advertising Photography. So, he equips himself with the best camera equipments which enable him to ably pursue the many assignments and challenges that come his way.

He specializes in various fields of photography like food, jewelry, product, real estate, industrial and others.

His interest has always been in Macro Photography. In pursuit of this, he has explored many low lying areas, tracking and photo-shooting tiny and intricate insects in all their glory.

LIFE ON STREETS is powered by Highland Hospital, and is brought to you in association with Ideals Ice Cream and Kanachur Hospital and is supported by PropHippo, Car Decor, Coastal Farms and Maestro production.
