First Ride: Mahindra Mojo

Mahindra Mojo is currently the flagship motorcycle for its maker. The company left no stone unturned as they spent 5 years on the development of their latest product. Currently positioned as a tourer in the premium segment—does it make the cut? Who is this motorcycle made for? I spent a day riding it, and now I can finally answer these questions.
Twin headlamps, reminiscent of an owl are built into a larger headlamp cluster sporting a modern instrument console. Large tank, twin exhausts and a great stance from rear three-quarters are pleasing to the eye—often reminding me of the Ducati Monster.

Black twin tube, double cradle exposed chassis feels like an exposed rib; bit of an eyesore from few angles. Since looks are subjective, opinions will differ. However, I can assure you that; Mojo turns heads as you ride towards anybody with an unmistakable personality distinguished easily on the streets.

Ergonomics seemed comfortable but shorter riders may find the seat and handlebar height slightly on the higher side. Relaxed riding posture and a plush seat helps in soaking up the bumps although if you are going to tackle corners, you will find it on the softer side!

There is civility in the way it puts power down to the road. Acceleration is brisk throughout the powerband. It never disappoints with its strong mid-range performance from it’s single-cylinder 275cc engine producing 26.82 Bhp and 30 Nm torque respectively.

The engine is a refined unit and only feels a little strained nearing peak rpms. But, if you want to cruise at 110-120 kmph, it won’t break a sweat! Clutch is light and easy to pull in, the 6-speed gearbox needs an improvement in shift quality, but finding neutral is easy. It has stable highway manners, and despite the long wheelbase it remains quite steady through corners despite a hint of weave through the chassis.

Massive 21 liter tank will take you far and those incredibly grippy Pirelli Diablo Rosso II tyres (110/70 x 17 front and 150/60 x 17 rear) provide excellent grip in the dry and wet. The brakes are progressive but seem a bit lazy. Mojo’s weight is front biased and you get a sense of it when you attempt to quickly slow down.

Mahindra Mojo comes with 2 year extendable warranty and 1 year road-side assistance. It’s targeted at motorcycle enthusiasts who know what they want from their bike. If you prefer a relaxed yet engaging ride, and need to munch miles along the way then this fits the bill. Everytime you swing your leg over and thumb the starter button; Mojo offers a feel-good vibe that fuels your mojo to ride!
