Mangaluru: Setting an example for the society, Yathish Ullal who hails from a socially and economically backward community of Mundala has done Dakshina Kannada district proud by emerging as the topper in the SC category of KAS 2014 examinations. He stood at the 8th rank in the overall category with 1,226 marks and has qualified for the post of Assistant Commissioner in group ‘A’.

Born to Late U Kitta , a retired Sales Tax Inspector and Sundari, a retired school teacher Yathish presently resides at Halengady with his mother and two siblings.
In an exclusive interview to newskarnataka.com Yathish Ullal said that this was possible only because of his dedication towards study and the immense hard work he had put in.
“I have done self study as well as combined studies with Manjunath, a friend of mine who works in Indian Bank as credit manager and also taken coaching at Jain Career Training Academy, Moodabidri,” he added.
Definitely not the end of the journey
Elated at emerging one of the toppers in the exams Yathish says “Am really happy, I had expected it but I couldn’t believe when it was 8th rank.” Further he adds that he wants to serve the people as KAS officer by providing them good service.
However, this is not the end of the journey for an ambitious Yathish who now aspires to write the IAS exams with the same zeal. His aim he mentions is to be recognized for his meritorious service by the state Chief Minister as also he hopes to get a award from the Prime minister some day.
Hope to be a motivation for others
“Very less people from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district appear for the civil services exam, my efforts should be a motivation for them to come forward and write the civil service exams,” says Yathish.
Coming from the backward Mundala community, he says that though people are talented within the community very few people join government jobs. “I will support youth in the community to come forward write the competitive exams.”
