Mangalore: The Sahyadri Samrakshana Sanchaya staged a protest against the proposed diversion of Netravati River or the Yettinahole project, in front of the DC office on Friday January 10.


Sahyadri Samrakshana Sanchaya Coordinator Dinesh Holla said that the state government cannot be trusted and added the government was deceitful. Moreover he also asserted that before the elections Veerappa Moily had assured that he would not allow the Netravati diversion project.”But now he has forgotten his promise, we should not have voted for such a government,” he added.
Even while being aware that Netravathi River is the lifeline of the coastal people, the government is spending Rs 60,000 crore on this river diversion project which will have drastic consequences, Holla said.
AICC member P V Mohan, Harikrishna Punaroor along with Environmentalist Dinesh Shetty also addressed the agitators during the protest and urged to save the river which is an integral part of the lives of the people of Tulunadu.
