Hail the Constitution!
Hail the Republic!
Hail the Ruler!
Hail, not the common man,
Who makes them these…
Look at it, read it out loud.
Hear yourselves say the words – “We the people”
Are equal!
72 years on, and so many born
Are unequal.
Let us stand on the scale.
Of justice, of education, of money, of the vale
It tilts does it not?
But then it is a scale, or what?
Can it ever be balanced?
By a word written down?
Perhaps…
if it was within our constitution.
When in doubt, doubling down!
For the time being
Maybe a kind deed, or two
will weigh it down and lift the frown.
For a moment, not two.
More? Go stew.
But without pain, can there be gain?
Without a stain, without the sleaze
Without the wheeze,
you cannot enjoy the breeze!
What’s new? Jeez!
So,
Hail the Constitution!
Hail the Republic!
Hail the Ruler!
Hail not the common man,
Who makes them these…
