India is home to many bird sanctuaries. That is why bird sanctuaries can be found in all states of India. Each bird has a different natural habitat. Thus the same bird is not found everywhere. To protect these birds and their species, bird sanctuaries are constructed. They are natural facilities that provide the conservation of various species and their natural habitat. Moreover, it promotes the survival and rehabilitation of these birds.
Uttara Kannada, the largest District of Karnataka, which is rich in abundant natural resources, offers amazing flora and fauna. The place is also known as the tropical paradise. One such place is Attiveri Bird Sanctuary, which is associated with beauty of true nature and a natural habitat for several species of birds, local and migratory alike. Further, it is a site rich in biodiversity. numerous species of birds which includes Rose-ringed Parakeet, Barn Swallows, Brown Shrike, and Bay-backed Shrike to name a few. More commonly seen birds are Cormorants, Hornbills, Kingfishers, and Red-naped Ibis among others.
This apart, the sanctuary which is spread across 22 Sqkms around Attiveri Lake also houses mammals such as Wild Pig, Grey Mongoose, Jackal, Jungle Car and the like.
