Sandalwood producer G N Lakshmipathi dies

Bengaluru: Renowned Kannada film producer Gubbi Narasimaiah Lakshmipathi, aged 102, breathed his last on Thursday, May 16.

Lakshmipathi was born on May 7, 1917, in the Tumakuru district, in a family of builders. He is survived by four children, two sons and two daughters.

Owner of Maruthi Movies, Lakshmipathi produced seven films including “Uyyale”, “Ondanondu Kaladalli”, “Kaadu” and “Chitegu Chinte”. His first film, “Devara Makkalu” starred Dr Rajkumar.

Lakshmipathi’s films were shown in various international film festivals, not just in Karnataka.

For his contributions to the Kannada film industry, the State government had honoured him with the Dr Vishnuvardhan Award.
