Meet Dialogue King Sai Kumar who made a comeback after a gap of more than a decade. Sai Kumar, who turned 57 on July 27, is known for playing role of police officer in Kannada, Tamil and Telugu films. Sai Kumar’s recent film Rangi Taranga successfully completed 100 days of screening at many theatres in Karnataka. Now he is acting in Kannada films such as Naagarahaavu, Madamakki and Kishmath apart from an untitled film that went to floors on Monday at BGS Medical College in Bengaluru.

Meanwhile, Sai Kumar is also busy with preparations to contest Karnataka Assembly election from Bagepalli in 2018. It may be recalled that Sai Kumar unsuccessfully contested to the Assembly from Bagepalli in 2008 as a BJP candidate. He was in the fourth place while Sampangi N of Congress romped home with 32,244 votes. He polled 26,070 votes while Sreerama Reddy of CPI was in the second place with 31,306 votes and JD(S) candidate Nagaraja Reddy D J was in the third place by securing 27,926 votes. If his confidence and enthusiasm are anything to go by, it seems that he wants to take politics seriously and doesn’t want to leave no stone unturned for this purpose. He has explained his future plans in a brief interview with Y Maheswara Reddy on the sets of his latest film.
You were in the fourth place when result for Bagepalli assembly segment was announced in 2008. Why do you want to contest again from Bagepalli?
I have a lot of attachment with Bagepalli since my mother is from this place. My aim is to contribute something for the development of Bagepalli by becoming an MLA. I know that I was in the fourth place and the difference between the winner and me was more than 6,000 votes. Now I am making all out efforts to reach out all the voters in Bagepalli assembly segment.
There is a complaint that you never bothered to meet the voters of Bagepalli after Assembly elections in 2008. How are you prepared to face the voters?
I know many voters will certainly question my absence in Bagepalli assembly constituency since 2008. I have answers for their queries. I wanted to focus on my son Adi who was pursuing acting career in Telugu films. I had to focus on my daughter and also take care of my parents. Now, my son Adi has been doing well in Telugu film industry and my daughter is settled in Belgaum. I have also been graduated as a grand-father. I am planning to settle down in Bagepalli shortly. I have chalked out many programmes to become closer to the people of Bagepalli. I am confident of winning the election from Bagepalli Assembly segment in 2018.
Is there any plan to launch your son Adi in Sandalwood?
Yes. I am planning to introduce Adi in Kannada film industry. We are contemplating to re-make Telugu film Karthikeya in Kannada. Adi played the lead role in Telugu version. I am waiting for a right time to launch my son Adi in Kannada film industry.
It seems you have become busy again in Kannada films after a long gap. What is the reason for the slump in your career?
I was quite busy for eight years in Kannada film industry. Yes it is true there was a slump in my career after 2002 due to some reasons but Kannada film industry welcomed me again. I have been doing anchoring for a few Telugu TV channels all these years. My recent Telugu films also fared well at the box-office. With the success of Kannada film Rangi Taranga, now I am busy in Kannada film industry. I am grateful to Kannada film industry for encouraging me all these years. Because of Kannada film industry, especially the film Police Story, I got an opportunity to become a brand ambassador for Andhra Pradesh Police Department. My Kannada film Police Story was dubbed into Tamil and Telugu.
What are your plans?
I want to play a variety of characters in Kannada films. I want to re-make Telugu film Mahaprasthanam in Kannada. As I said earlier, I want test my luck in politics. I will dedicate myself to politics if the voters of Bagepalli elect me to the State Assembly in the next elections.
