Bengaluru: Who will be the beneficiaries of state budget proposal which want Rs.200 cap on all tickets in the multiplexes?

One of the arguments made by few critics is that Kannada film viewers may not be benefited by this move. According to many, the ticket prices of Kannada movies in city multiplexes have already come down drastically due to various reasons. But theater owners were over charging non Kannada movies. But according to the exhibitors, ticket price is fixed based on the popularity of actor, demand for tickets and day of booking.

Here is an example. According to the film lovers, at PVR Regalia mall Beauty and the Beast movie tickets are priced at Rs.340 for late night shows. At ETA Mall, Magadiroad, a ticket of this movie is priced at Rs.400 under the VIP+ Glass 3D. But same movie ticket is available for Rs.100 in First Class in Cauvery theater on Sankey road. This huge variation is attributed to the quality of facilities and the feel one gets inside the theaters.

To support their argument, they give the ticket prices of Kannada movies exhibited in the multiplexes across the city. According to the film lovers, ticket of latest Kannada movie 1/4 Kg Preethi is available for just Rs.90 in prestigious Orion Mall of Rajajinagar. But contrary to this even a month after its release Hebbuli movie tickets are priced at Rs.240 in multiplexes like PVR Regalia, “But average price is between Rs. 100 and Rs.190,” said a multiplex staff.

“Generally tickets of star actors/ actress are kept above the average.Ticket rate is more on weekends due to the surge in the demand for the tickets,” he said.
