The poster for Darshan-starrer “Roberrt”, also known as “Robert” was released a few days ago on Eid-ul-Fitr and the same has generated quite a buzz among the masses. Many have also been quick to spot a connection to Karnataka’s coastal city of Mangaluru in the poster. So the question here is, is the film’s protagonist from Mangaluru?
In the poster, one can see that lead actor Darshan is stationed alone on a bike staring down a swarm of large vehicles speeding towards him. He is dressed in black and is sporting a leather jacket which bears a red elephant with two detached golden wings on either side and five stars below. Darshan is also seen sporting slightly longer thick black locks of hair.
According to the director of the film, Tharun Sudhir, movie posters generally do not leave much to the imagination of the masses as it is made from the team’s point of view. This time, however, Sudhir’s team decided to take a different approach and give the masses a mere peek into what the film is about. This seems to have worked.
The director stated that this approach to making a film poster has left generated a lot of curiosity among the people and many have asked him if the film is about a journey. Many have also asked about the elephant and the five stars seen on Darshan’s jacket and some others have asked about the styling of Darshan’s hair.
The license plate attached to Darshan’s bike also draws one’s attention to it as it is fixed at an odd angle. The plate reads KA 19 D 8055 (which can also be read as D BOSS), which is even more striking as it indicates that the protagonist can be from Karnataka’s popular coastal town Mangaluru (KA 19).
Admitting that the license plate was added in the first look intentionally, Sudhir said that it indicates a connection between the protagonist and the coastal town and that this possible association has turned the poster into a hot topic.
Sources told Newskarnataka.com that it is likely that the protagonist is from the coastal city of Mangaluru. He also revealed that most of the portions of the film will be shot there once the monsoons are over.
“So far, a little over 20 days of the shoot has been completed. We have shot the film in Mysuru, Pondicherry (Puducherry), Bengaluru, Chennai and other places. Major portions of the film will be shot in Mangaluru once the monsoon season is over,” they said. He added that Darshan’s look for this film is completely fresh and that the actor has never before been seen in this avatar.
While the sources were reluctant to reveal more details, they said that popular Telugu actor Jagapathi Babu will be playing the villain and also informed that they are still looking for someone to play the female lead of the film as well as some other pivotal characters.
We may not be so sure about the connections or inclinations of the film, but speculation is always fun and an effective way to generate curiosity and hype. Is there anything else Sudhir’s team has hidden in the poster?
