B C Patil, who resigned as a police inspector to pursue his career in Sandalwood, is all set to make a comeback with a bang after a gap of six years. Patil has been assigned to play a key role in Kannada film Happy New Year that is expected to go on floors shortly. His daughter Shrusti also makes debut in Sandalwood with this film. As an actor he earned name and fame, but failed to make money as a producer. In a brief interview with Y Maheswara Reddy, he explains why he has decided to make a comeback and how he is going to adapt himself with the current trend in Gandhinagar, the hub of Kannada film industry.
Your last film was Salute in 2010. What made you to come back?
Yes, it is more than six years. My last film was Salute. All these years I could not find an intelligent director to make a film for me. There were film directors, but not capable of making a good film. Finally, I zeroed in on Pannaga Nagabharana, the son of veteran director Nagabharana.
Pannaga Nagabharana is also not an experienced director. What made you to select him as the director for your film Happy New Year?
I happened to approach director Nagabharana to make a tele-serial. He advised me against it due to various reasons. He wanted me to make a film instead of a tele-serial. I asked him whether he has any suitable script to make a Kannada film. He advised me to contact his son Pannaga who narrated me five scripts. I selected this script to make Happy New Year.
Are you confident of getting what you expect from Pannaga?
Actually I was interested to make a film with director Nagabharana. Pannaga’s style of narration was very impressive. I am confident of getting what I wanted from Pannaga since Nagabharana will be always available for any suggestions and guide us.
You have acted in more than 20 films in 17 years. Except the film Kaurava, none of your films succeeded at the box-office. What is the reason?
As I told you, I was not lucky to have good and efficient directors all these years. I agree that not many of my films were succeeded at the box-office, but I am satisfied with the name and the fame I earned. I, as a producer, lost money. I also realised that money is not the only factor that make a film successful, but a good team and good script and other factors are also play key role in making a film successful at the box-office.
What made you to introduce your daughter Shrusti into films?
My daughter happened to act in one of my films as a child artiste. Shrusti has developed a passion to become an actress. As a father, encouraging and supporting her is my responsibility.
Generally heroines are vulnerable to gossips and rumours. How you and your daughter are prepared to face such adverse publicity?
I agree with you about the rumours and gossips in the tinsel world. I want to tell you that it will depend on how we conduct ourselves on the sets during the shooting.
