TVS confirms the launch of the TVS Akula 310, showcased as a concept at the 2016 Auto Expo earlier this year. The supersport motorcycle was also spied just a few days ago and the launch of the superbike is expected to happen around late 2016.
Thought to be planned for 2017, the advancement of the launch of the motorcycle has come as a surprise. Enthusiasts will find an even bigger surprise, as the pricing is expected to be hugely competitive; to be priced around Rs. 1.5-1.8 lakh (ex-showroom).
The TVS brings the Akula concept out of a technological collaboration with the BMW Motorrad. So, the TVS Akula 310 shares the same trellis steel frame chassis of the BMW G 310 R and also the powerplant from the BMW sibling.
The TVS Akula 310 will be powered by the same 313 cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine of the G 310 R. The BMW motor produces 34 PS of power and 28 Nm of torque, while the Akula 310’s engine could hit the market with a slightly different tune. The transmission will be carried out via a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The competitive pricing of the Akula 310 could leave out some of the equipment it flaunted at the Expo in early 2016. The most prominent of them are the Upside-down front forks suspension and the data collection cameras. However, the digital display with 0-100 kmph timer, etc. will probably feel great for the price.
The TVS Akula 310 is built on the ultra-lightweight carbon-fibre concept as a supersport motorcycle and will likely be retailed with the model name, Apache RTR 300. The competitive pricing of the Akula 310 could mean that it is one of the highest-powered offerings, within its price range.
