New Delhi: Mamata Banerjee has once again come under attack from Bengal Congress President Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who opposes the state’s alliance with the Trinamool Congress. The central leadership of the party has been urged not to form an alliance with Trinamool, which is a part of the INDIA alliance, by a segment of Congress leaders who have sympathies with the Left and want a Left-Congress understanding.

While a number of state Congress leaders, such as Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, are in favor of a coalition with the Left despite having lost the state assembly election together in 2021, senior Congress leaders are persuaded of the benefits of working with the Trinamool, particularly in preventing the division of anti-BJP votes in the state.

Mr Chowdhury, though, denied having any knowledge of anyone “begging” for an alliance with the Trinamool.

“We’re not sure who was pleading. “We are not vagrants,” he declared to the press.

“Mamata Banerjee has stated that our alliance will fight the elections. She doesn’t owe us any mercy; we have two seats. We are capable of fighting on our own,” he declared.

He claimed that the leader of Trinamool is against the alliance.

Who in Hindustan will be happiest today if there is no alliance? There won’t be an alliance, which will make PM Modi very happy. He said, “Mamata Banerjee is serving Modiji by doing this.”

Last week too, Mr Chowdhury had accused Ms Banerjee of scuttling the alliance in Bengal.

“The West Bengal Chief Minister does not want an alliance because she will face problems. The responsibility she has been given will face a problem if there is an alliance. We have no objection… The Congress has the capacity to fight elections on its own in Bengal.”

The Trinamool, meanwhile, is also getting increasingly impatient as the Congress has ignored its deadline for seat-sharing talks. Mamata Banerjee has already made it clear that her party is not interested in giving the Congress six seats in Bengal. Sources say the Congress is looking at fighting in at least six seats, including seats Malda, Murshidabad and the Raiganj seat.

“The Trinamool Congress will fight in Bengal, and the India Alliance will be present throughout the country. The only party in Bengal that has the power to discipline the BJP is the Trinamool Congress. Unlike any other party, it can demonstrate to the entire nation how to win,” she has stated.

“The positions of the Delhi Congress and the Bengal Congress are very different from one another. To form a strong INDIA alliance, Soniaji, Rahulji, and the Delhi Congress are keen to work with the Trinamool Congress. However, in Bengal, the state Congress is acting as BJP operatives because Trinamool won the fight and overthrew BJP in 2021, according to Trinamool spokesperson Kunal Ghosh.
