SMMC Dubai successfully hosts indoor cricket, throwball event

Dubai: SMMC (St. Mary’s Mangalorean Community) Dubai organized a regimented one-day Indoor Cricket and Throwball Tournament ‘SMMC Sport 2016’ on February 12, Friday, where competent 22 catholic teams from all over UAE participated at Sprite Insportz Sports Club, Dubai.
As the various sports team members arrived in the morning, registration process was carried out efficiently by the SMMC volunteers.

The inaugural ceremony commenced with the exuberant Emcee of the day Lanita Noronha introducing the organization SMMC and welcoming all the participants and guests.

SMMC Spiritual Director Fr. Robert Lasrado recited the opening prayer and conveyed the message about the forthcoming events of SMMC saying that the importance of these events is that it brings people together. Fr. Lasrado also assured of organizing such events every year with the support of people.

Emcee Lanita Noronha introduced all the participating teams and carried out oath taking ceremony. Cricket tournament was declared open with Fr. Robert Lasrado symbolically batting in the court.

Sprite Insportz briefed the participating teams about the custom rules and regulations for the tournament. Fixtures were declared as the tournament format and matches for Cricket and Throwball started simultaneously in 5 courts.

Throughout the day, guests and prominent members of the Konkani community visited the venue and were kept engrossed in the spectacular matches between various teams of Cricket (men), Throwball (Men) and Throwball (women).

In the evening, Emcees Clement Cardoza and Lanita Noronha initiated the Award presentation ceremony.

Conveyor of SMMC Sports 2016, Boniface Carlo rendered vote of thanks to all the sponsors, volunteers and all those who contributed to the success of the event.

Winners, Runner up teams, each player of all winner/runner up teams and outstanding players were awarded with trophies presented by various sponsors and SMMC Committee members. Even each participating team was rewarded with the token of appreciation.
