Kuwait: Kuwait Canara Welfare Association celebrated Christmas under the able leadership of Mr. Anil Fernandes on Friday 6th December 2013 at ICSK Auditorium, Khaitan, Kuwait. Fr. Joseph Dolphy Pais, Provincial Minister- Capuchin Provincialate, Karnataka was the chief guest.
The program commenced with a Christmas star competition which exhibited the creative talents of the members. This was followed by live singing by Kuwait’s popular singers Lancy Rodrigues, Joyline Gonsalves & Orson D’souza. Music was given by Kiran Gonsalves. After the brief introduction by compere of the evening Deepak Andrade and ReemaD’souza, President Anil Fernandes welcomed the gathering. Sponsors of the event and Scholarship Sponsors were felicitated by Fr. Joseph Dolphy Pais and Fr. Noel D’Almeida.
The merit scholarships sponsored by Sam Alphonso, Felix Saldanha, Lawrence D’Souza and Nithin Castelino were awarded to the students of tenth and twelfth standard from Kuwait and India, for their academic excellence. Herald D’Souza of ‘Spinns Confectionery’-sponsored extra-curricular award for the children of members, was presented to the winners of CBSE inter-school competitions, inter-college competitions and those who represented the school outside the state/country in the academic year 2012-13. Fr. Joseph Dolphy Pais delivered the Christmas message to the gathering.
Lots of spot prizes were awarded in between the dance session. Christmas tableau directed by Lancy Rodrigues and played by Fr. Noel D’Almeida, Anil Fernandes, Anil Menezes and Lydia Misquith along with a message was one of the events of the day. The music for the tableau was given by Kiran Gonsalves. The Abbasiya Group sang the Christmas carols. Children were excited, as they were loaded with lots of chocolates and gifts, once Santa made his entry.
Prizes were distributed to the Christmas Star competition winners. Special member’s draws were held for the active members present on the venue, and also for the renewal of the memberships for 2014 and life members. Hamper draw was held and winners walked away with fabulous prizes. Alger Mathias and Rudy D’ Souza received the 1st prize for highest selling of hampers. A painting of Trevor was auctioned on the occasion. Auction of Silver Christmas tree was done as a part of fund raising for the education of poor children in India.
A sentimental dance on unwanted girl child birth was presented by Talent competition group dance category winner ‘DESI STRIKERS’ which was appreciated by everyone. Rajesh Aranha delivered the word of gratitude and Fr. Noel D’Almeida offered the grace before meal. A grand dinner prepared by Caesars Restaurant was served at the end. The program was well compered by Deepak Andrade, Reema D’Souza and Manohar Prabhu.The program was coordinated by Steevan Misquith and all the committee members supported actively for the great success.
As a final part of 25 years of its existence, KCWA will be having a grand celebration on 25th April 2014 along with Musical evening ‘Metro to Retro’ from a popular troupe from Mangalore along with top singer of Konkani songs Mr. Adolf Jayatilak and internationally famous Konkani drama “AamiNathlyaaVellar” by Daiji Rang Mandir- Dubai.
