Joshal D’Souza and Vincent Rodrigues win GVOM Dubai semi final leg, will represent Dubai in Finals

Dubai: The Gulf Voice of Mangalore (GVOM) reached a thrilling climax in Dubai last night when, Joshal Sweeda D’Souza and Vincent Rodrigues were chosen to represent UAE at the Finals of the Gulf Voice of Mangalore, Season Four to be held in Muscat in November.

The mesmerizing UAE GVOM Season Four Semi Finals were held at the Emirates Theatre-Emirates English Speaking School on Friday, September 26, 2014.  The hall was packed to capacity. The UAE Voice of GVOM was organized by premier association of Dubai Mangalore Konkans under the able leadership of James Mendonsa. The grand event began with the compere for first part of the day Rowena welcoming the gathering and inviting the guests of honor of the day Francis Raj Fernandes, Joseph Mathias and Clarence Pinto to the dais for the inauguration of the event.

All the contestants were then led to the stage in a grand procession with a standing ovation. Prior to the singing contest, a beautiful prayer song was recited by all the contestants.

Roshan D’Silva, the famous compere of the Gulf Region, took charge of the singing contest and invited and introduced the judges of the day to the audience namely Melwyn Peris, Anita D’Souza and Allwyn Fernandes. All the judges were honored with flower bouquets by President of Mangalore Konkans, James Mendonsa. He then introduced singers and also explained the rules of the singing contest in two rounds.

While the first round was rendering of songs from existing Konkani Albums, the second was fast numbers. Six participants of each gender, male and female, took part in the most amazing singing contest. The female category was represented by, Joshal, Nisha, Jane, Vinola, Fabela and Sharon, and the male category, by Allwyn, Vincent, Jeevan, Melwyn, Anil and Brian.

Soon after the singing contest the main sponsors of the day Raju Francis Fernandes and Michael D’Souza were honored by James Mendonsa with a flower bouquet each. Also, honored on the occasion were Co-sponsors Joseph Raj, Joseph Mathias, Walter D’Souza, Simon D’Mello, media representatives, DJ Lancy Omzoor and Vincent Fernandes of Mogachem Laran were also felicitated.

A new CD of hymns titled “Tannem Kelyanth Vichitram“ by Melroy D’Cunha, Youngest Music Director of Konkani Musical show ‘Nirantari’ of genius record was released by Walter Nandalike of Daijiworld.

James Mendonsa expressed gratitude to the Judges, Melwyn Peris, Anita D’Souza and Allwyn Fernandes and all the participants for their wonderful singing, the media for their presence and publicity, the melodious singers for adding melody to the evening, Romero Mascarenhas and his Musical team, and the Melodia group of Jossy Moras.

The heart throbing sounds of the event were powered by the Broadway event management, a well known name in the field of event management of UAE. They too received the appreciation of the President of Mangalore Konkans, James Mendonsa.

Roshan D’Silva and Rowena were honored for being engaging masters’ of ceremony. The Melodia singing group led by Jossy Moras provided a magical performance. Lancy Madta introduced the group and singers. Feat Beat group provided scintillating dances.

All the judges enthralled the audience with their beautiful singing prior to the announcement of the winners. Speaking on behalf of the judges Melwyn Peris praised all the singers for their excellent singing. He said though the only two singers will go to the finals, the other ten singers should not lose their interest but continue singing.

Vinay Louise the winner of First GVOM held in Kuwait announced the winner in the female category – Joshal Sweeda D’Souza to the thunderous applause to the audience and Ivan Fernandes announced the winner of GVOM UAE announced winner in  the male category, Vincent Rodrigues. Both of them were invited to the dais and felicitated with a memento and flower bouquets by Apoline D’Cunha of Mangalore Konkans. The trophies were handed over by the winners by the president of Mangalore Konkan’s James Mendonsa.
