Abu Dhabi: ‘Sophiya’, the super hit Konkani movie, which successfully concluded two houseful shows in Dubai, did a hat-trick houseful show in Abu Dhabi too. Konkani movie lovers in Abu Dhabi flocked to the theatre before the show and were waiting to have a glimpse of Actress Esther Noronha.
It was a tremendous response from the Konkani audience in Novo Cinemas – World Trade Centre – Abu Dhabi and the inauguration was held around 3.45 pm with Shodhan Prasad welcoming the audience and the Guests. He briefed the audience about the success of ‘Sophiya’ wherever it was released and mentioned that a share of the collection from the screening of ‘Sophiya’ in Israel was handed over to a Charity organization in Mangaluru. He also shared that Janet Noronha is the first woman producer in the Konkani movie industry and ‘Sophiya’ is her first production in Konkani which she did as a part of her bid to promote the Konkani language. Shodhan later thanked all the well-wishers including Clarence Cornell of Globelink West Star Shipping who supported the Abu Dhabi Show. He also specially thanked Cynthia D’Cunha who has took the initiative to distribute the tickets is Abu Dhabi.
Guests Ronald Pinto of Hysna International, Sudhir Shetty of UAE Exchange, Leo Rodrigues of Clevy Al Mazroui Group, Richard Castelino, Cynthia Dcunha of Sanipex Group, Esther and Janet Noronha inaugurated the show by lighting the traditional lamp while the whole audience cheered. Ronald Pinto in his inaugural speech spoke about the difficulties of producing and distributing a movie that too in Konkani which has a small market. Unless people of the community voluntarily come forward and support the producers; they will not be able to cover the cost incurred for our entertainment, he added. He said he is more than happy to watch ‘Sophiya’ again even after watching it during the Dubai grand release recently. Sudhir Shetty also spoke on the occasion and said there are many movies from Tulu Nadu being produced and presented and that Konkani movies have shown positive signs with many releases in the recent times. While congratulating the Producer Janet Noronha and actress Esther Noronha for their effort, he also wished them good luck to produce more movies in the near future.
Later, on behalf of Janet Noronha, actress Esther Noronha thanked the audience for the whole hearted support she received. She said that their blessings and well wishes really brought her to where she is now. The good deeds towards the community you live in will always be blessed by the Almighty, she added. Esther, the multitalented daughter of Janet Noronha, has to her credit various successful movies in Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, Kannada, Konkani, & Tulu.
After the show all the audience and fans had a photo session with Esther. Later, the actress left to Mangaluru to complete a Kannada film shoot.
The Sharjah screening for ‘Sophiya’ will be on February 2 at 4 pm in NOVO Cinemas, Mega Mall and Cynthia Goveas, another strong Konkani supporter in Sharjah has voluntarily taken over the responsibility to conclude a houseful show there. Patron of Sharjah Karnataka Sangha, Mark Denis and the famous MC Uttam Menezes, have come forward to support the Sharjah screening of ‘Sophiya’.
There are plans to host one show in Mussafah and one show in Al Ain as the Konkani Church Group Leaders in these areas are approaching the distributors continuously. The dates for these shows are not yet finalized and will be done once theaters are available.
