Dubai: The music and tickets of the much-awaited Konkani movie “Benddkar” were released at Winny’s Restaurant Ballroom in Karama, Dubai on Friday, September 20.
Former Mangaluru MLA JR Lobo was the chief guest for the event. Shodhan Prasad welcomed the gathering and described the filming process of “Benddkar” while also talking about the issues addressed by the movie.
After the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, actors Deepak Paladka and Sunitha Menezes shared their view about the film and spoke about their roles in general.
In his inaugural address, Film producer and actor Stany Alvares said that the full efforts of his team had gone into making “Benddkar”. He said, “If everyone supports it (the movie), it will encourage producers to present similar films in Konkani which will give a major boost to the language itself.”
“There may be some discrepancies in whatever our own people present, be it a drama or film, but highlighting these discrepancies in social media is not a wise idea; instead, speak to those concerned and maybe they can rectify those things without making it public,” he added.
Afterwards, the music CD of the film was unveiled by JR Lobo, along with other guests.
Addressing the gathering, Lobo said, “I feel like Dubai is a home away from home. Yesterday, I attended a Konkani drama in Abu Dhabi and I am here at this event today. Benddkar is a story about artists of a bygone era. Whether it is Yakshagana artists or Benddkar artists, all of them have an untold story. These artists promote art despite having a lot of financial difficulties.”
“In Pilikula (Mangaluru), there is a place called Band Stand. I feel like we should have Benddkar artists perform there every Saturday or Sunday,” he added.
Lobo further said, “It is essential that we support and promote our mother tongue. This is not merely the duty of producers or directors, but it is the duty of the audience as well. Along with supporting the Konkani language, we must also keep up the traditions.”
Speaking on the occasion, “Benddkar” actor Joseph Mathias shared his feelings about the movie and said, “Our own people are not coming forward to support their mother-tongue. However, everyone present here are the true supporters of the Konkani language.”
After the programme, all the attendees went up to the desks to book their tickets for the film.
Shodhan Prasad delivered the vote of thanks and Uttam Menezes compered the programme.
Tulu film producer Ronald Martis, Konkani actresses Jennifer and Navyatha, Elias Sanctis, Daiji Ranghmanch’s Dayan D’Souza, and others were present at the event.
The programme was followed by a lavish buffet organised by the filmmakers.
