Dubai: The Devadiga community of UAE under the leadership of Harish Sherigar celebrated the 23rd anniversary of their unity with a fulfilled family gathering at Deira Sheraton Hotel here in Dubai, on October 30, 2015.
The event was inaugurated by Sumangali by lighting the traditional lamp along with distinguish guests. Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of NMC hospitals and UAE Exchange Padmashri Dr. B R Shetty was the guest of honor. Speaking on the occasion after receiving honor from Devadiga’s Dubai, he recalled his close association with the community, citing his many friends within the community and wished all Devadiga youth would work hard and attain success. He concluded his speech by congratulating the organizing team and hoped they would continue their social activities in the coming years.
Ex -President of Mumbai Devadiga Sangha, Eminent businessman Dharmapal U. Devadiga and Rajyotsava Awardee, Eminent Neuro Surgeon Dr. K.V. Devadiga from Mangaluru were other guests who arrived from India to participate in the function. They were facilitated by the organizers for their excellence in their respective fields and service to the community. Both dignitaries expressed their happiness for providing an opportunity to participate in the glittering event where the vibrant talents of the Devadiga community have an opportunity to blossom and wished the Devadiga’s Dubai a bright future.
Padmavally Sanjay one of the Devadiga’s Dubai founder member was also felicitated for her community service and social activities in Dubai. Harish Sherigar, president of Devadiga’s Dubai honored the guests and sponsors with mementos and thanked them for making the event a grand success. During his speech, he said the funds collected from the conduct of the event would be utilized for education and social activities of the Devadiga community back home in India.
Famous Saxophone artist, Karnataka Rajyotsava Awardee Sindhu Bhairavi, along with her father Machendranath Mangaladevi presented a melodious classical fusion which enthralled the audience. Sindhu and Machendranath were honored by Devadiga’s Dubai after their performance.
Dr. Bhaskar Shetty, a renowned surgeon and director of City hospital Mangalore, Sudhir Shetty – CEO UAE Exchange, Pravin Shetty – Chairman Fortune Group of Hotels, Sathish Venkataramana – CEO Chilly Willy & President of Sharjah Karnataka Sangha, Shri Annaya Sherigar – Trustee Ekanatheshwari Temple Barkur, H.Mohandas – Ex President of Devadiga Sangha Mumbai, James Mendonsa – Reliable fabricators, Walter Nandalike – of Daijiworld and various dignitaries from community associations graced the event.
The fun-filled day saw a Devadiga fashion show, mesmerizing dances by Devadiga’s Dubai members and rib tickling comedy skits by “BaleTelipale” Runners up of Dubai episode 2014 and Devadigas team supported by Kala Naivedya Dubai.
Melodious medleys of Kannada tracks of the late 80’s were rendered by Harish Sherigar, Vijaya Bhat and Akshata Rao.
A sumptuous buffet lunch was served as a part of celebration.
