Dubai : The Devadiga Sangha, Dubai-UAE which has earned a name for itself in the sphere of social and welfare activities, celebrated its 21st anniversary at the Sheraton Deira Hotel in Dubai.
Prof. BS Sherigar, former vice chancellor of Kuvempu University, who was the chief guest of the occasion, inaugurated the celebrations by lighting the lamp along with Harish Sherigar, President of Devadiga Sangha and other dignitaries in the presence of several members of the community.
Welcoming the chief guests and gathering, Harish Sherigar, President of the Sangha, said the Sangha since the past several years, has been engaged in various social service activities and has also been aiding the education of children hailing from economically backward families. Stating that the endeavour required the wholehearted co-operation of all members of the community, he sought the contributions of everyone for the cause.
The Prof. BS Sherigar couple were honoured on the occasion by presenting them a shawl, memento and a citation. Responding to the felicitation, chief guest, Prof. B.S.Sherigar said Kannadigas settled in the UAE have made yeoman contributions to the society and urged the present generation to always revere and respect the culture and traditions of their land and also imbibe noble virtues. There can be a strong society when caste based discrepancies ends, he said. While hailing the social service activities of the Sangha, he also thanked the organization for honouring him.
