‘Diabetes, PCOD are two faces of same coin’

Mangaluru: Thank You Karnataka is a series of programmes organised to celebrate the decennial year of NewsKarnataka and thus thank Kannadigas all over the globe for supporting the Spearhead Media Group to achieve this milestone.

One of the programmes under Thank You Karnataka series is Arogya Manthana, a show on health which is aired every Monday.

The guest of the 14th episode aired on February 13 was Dr. Ganesh H. K., M.B.B.S., MD, DM (Endocrinology), Consultant Endocrinologist, A. J. Hospital and Research Centre, Mangalore Endodiab Clinic. The Anchor person for the programme was Dr. Anuradha K. C., Kakunje Ayurvedic Wellness Clinic, Moodabidri.

The programme was premiered on NewsKarnataka.com’s YouTube Channel.

Dr. Ganesh H. K. spoke on the relation between harmone imbalance and Endocrinology along with stating the diseases which requires the consultation of an endocrinologist. He names few such as Diabetes, Thyroid and diseases causing out of Pituitary gland.

“The expected age limit of being vulnerable to diabetes have come down to 20 from 40 years. It is because of our lifestyle, sitting in a particular position for hours and also Imbalance of food intake and physical activies are certain reasons, pointed out Dr. Ganesh H. K.

Speaking about diabetes during pregnancy doctor suggested that it is better for the mother to have control on diabetes in first three trimesters, as it is the phase of embryo developement. And cautioned that uncontrolled diabetes will lead to having physical disability in child.

Dr. Ganesh H. K also spoke on hypothyroidism its symptoms, treatment and the effects of neglecting the thyroxine medication for the same. Thyroxine is essential for the brain developement of a child in the womb. And so thyroid level has to be maintained well during pregnancy, he said.

Diabetes and PCOD are two faces of same coin. Losing five to ten percent of weight will give a significant result against PCOD, doctor suggested.

Dr. Ganesh H. K. said that his father is an inspiration behind his success. As an advise to the audience he asked for a pledge of half an hour walk every day along avoiding outside food.
