Karkala: After a pregnant woman named Malini Poojari died under suspicious circumstances here on Thursday February 20, a large number of localities along with Malini’s parents gathered at the police station on Friday February 21 urging to take action against the accused in the case.


Accusing Malini’s husband and in-laws for the death of Malini, the agitators expressed their dissatisfaction over the pace of investigation by the policemen. They said that police had failed to take action even after a case was filed against the accused with regard to the death of his first wife, Ashalata.
The police however asserted that they have already registered dowry harassment and abetment to suicide cases against Ashok, and that they will be collecting evidences in this case soon. They added that based on the finding in the post mortem report, they will decide about further course of action.
Assistant Superintendent of Police, Annamalai, met the relatives and the locals gathered. He assured to take action against those found guilty.
On the basis of a complaint made by Malini’s mother, Ashok Jain, his father, Yuvaraj Hegde, and mother Indira Jain, were arrested by the police of Ajekar. They were produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody till March 4.
