New Delhi: A teenager has been found guilty of taking part in the fatal gang rape of a woman on a Delhi bus last year. He has been convicted on charges of rape and murder over the crime, committed when he was aged 17.
He has been sentenced to three years in a correctional home subject to review. His sentence will include the period he has already spent in the remand home.
Though there was no bone test done on the juvenile, he was declared a minor on the basis of his date of birth in his school register.
The gang rape of the 23-year-old woman last December caused uproar across India and triggered a national debate about the treatment of women.
The verdict in the case of the teenager – now aged 18 – had been deferred several times before.
