Mysuru, the City of Palaces is tourists’ delight!

Mysuru: Mysuru is known as city of palaces and also as the cultural city. In the recent past, the city received clean city and first open defecation free city tags. However, it is primarily known as the city of palaces.

World renowned Amba vilas palace stands out first followed by Jaganmohan palace, Lalitha Mahal palace, Rajendra Vilas palace, Tippu’s summer palace, Lokranajan Mahal palace, Vasanath Mahal palace, Karanji Vilas palace, Aloka palace, Cheluvamba palace, Chamundi Vihar palace, Chittaranjan palace and Jayalakshmi Vilas palace.

Amba Vilas palace

Constructed in the year 1800 using bricks and wood, Amba Vilas palace was destroyed in fire. It was rebuilt again in 1912 after 15 years of hardwork at a cost of Rs 41.5 lakhs.

Jaganmohan place

Constructed in 1861 this palace witnessed major events like coronation, Royal wedding and the Kings stayed in the palace till the present Amba Vilas was built.

Rajendra Vilas palace

It is known as summer palace. It was also a five star hotel for some period.

Lalitha Mahal Palace

It is presently a star hotel. Many movies are shot here because of its grandeur. Lalitha Mahal place is located at a distance of 5 kms from the main city on the hill top. This building is visible from all the corners of the city. Constructed in 1922 at a cost of Rs 13 lakhs, the palace was taken over by the government in 1955.

Each palace has its own importance and proclaims the royal tradition. In some buildings, government offices are functioning where as some others were recently renovated.
