Mangaluru: Heavy rain that lashed over the district resulted in uprooting of a fifty year old mango tree that majestically stood at Attavar, ward no 47.

The huge tree fell at about 3.30am on Sunday, affecting regular traffic movement in the area.

As the tree fell on a High Voltage electric wire, power supply to the nearby homes came to a halt. Corporator Abdul Ravoof rushed to the spot and as a precautionary measure informed MESCOM officials to stop the power supply in that particular area.

Fire service personnel and MCC JCB cleared the tree in the morning.
