In a horrifying murder-suicide on Saturday in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, a man killed his mother, wife, and three children before taking his own life.
Nearly ninety kilometers from Lucknow, in the Palhapur village of Rampur Mathura in Sitapur, an incident took place.
Police said that Anurag Singh, 42, a drug addict and alcoholic, killed every member of his family at their Palhapur home before killing himself. They also said that Anurag, who was mentally ill, had regular arguments with his family because they wanted to check him into a de-addiction facility.
On Saturday, Anurag had an altercation with his family after they repeated their demand to get him admitted to a rehabilitation centre.
Soon after the argument, he shot dead his mother Savitri, 65, before bludgeoning his wife Priyanka, 40, with a hammer. He then threw his three children – aged 12, 9 and 6 years – from the roof of their house, killing all three of them. Later, he shot himself dead.
The peaceful UP village has felt the impact of the killings. As the bodies were taken for a post-mortem, a sizable contingent of the villagers congregated outside the house.
“Every facet of the case is being looked into by the forensic and police teams. After a thorough investigation is finished, a case will be filed, according to senior police officer Chakresh Mishra.
