New Delhi: An officer said on Tuesday that Delhi Police had detained a primary suspect who, with accomplices, had stabbed a 32-year-old man approximately 29 times in a park in the city’s outer suburbs.

The victim of a tragic incident was identified as Vinod, also known as Topi, who lived in the Sultanpuri area. An argument in a park was reported to the police via a PCR call at 11:04 p.m. on November 7.

Concurrently, a second call was received from Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, stating that Vinod had been fatally stabbed in the hands and abdomen, leaving him unconscious.

The police secured the area for additional investigation after receiving the information. A senior police officer said that a local investigation was carried out to obtain more information, and a crime team was called in.

Vinod’s wife transported him to the hospital, as their residence was nearby. The officer revealed that Vinod, employed as a labourer, had been unwell for the past month.

According to the senior police officer, on the night of the incident, Vinod was seated in the park when a group of boys, led by someone named Rohit, approached and initially assaulted him with sticks.

Subsequently, Vinod was cornered and subjected to a knife attack, causing him to collapse. The assailants swiftly fled the scene, leaving Vinod with multiple stab injuries on his torso, abdomen, hands, and back.

Based on technical inputs and local information, the main attacker Rohit, also known as Faizula, was apprehended from Sultanpuri on Monday thanks to the efforts of the Sultanpuri police station team.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer) Harendra K. Singh stated, “The weapon of offense, which was the knife used in the commission of the offence, his cloth worn at the time of incident, and his scooty used in committing said offence, have been recovered at his instance.

“Vinod allegedly owed Rohit money, but he refused to pay him later and started acting abusively toward Golu and Rohit. The accused lived close to the park where he used to sit. The accused became enraged by this and took drastic measures, according to the DCP.

Earlier, Avinash alias Golu was arrested on November 8 in the case.

“As per the disclosure made by the accused, he along with his maternal uncles (Mama) Rohit and Ranvir alias Khan have jointly committed the said offence. Efforts are on to nab the third accused,” said the DCP.
