A resident of Belthangady fell victim to a scam after being promised a Poland visa, resulting in a loss of Rs 2.5 lakh. The victim lodged a complaint, alleging that the accused, identified as Manoj, had assured him of securing a job for his son in Poland.
Chronicle of Deception
According to the complaint filed, between May 22 of the previous year and March 19, the victim handed over Rs 2.2 lakh to the accused in multiple installments. Each payment was made under different pretexts. Despite repeated assurances, the accused failed to deliver on his promise of arranging the visa or returning the money.
Legal Action Taken
Due to the accused’s failure to fulfill his commitments, a case was registered at the Dharmasthala police station under sections 417 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). These sections deal with offenses related to cheating and fraudulently inducing delivery of property.
The victim’s ordeal serves as a cautionary tale, highlighting the importance of vigilance and verification when dealing with promises of overseas opportunities.
