Sharan Rao becomes India's latest International Master!

Sharan Rao, son of Dr.Shubhananda Rao and Jyothi S Rao, scored his final IM norm in Czech Republic and crossed the rating of 2400 in Austria to become India’s 125th International Master. He also won championship tournaments in Italy, Slovakia and Bulgaria and is currently playing in the Zadar Open in Croatia.

Sharan’s chess career started in Derik’s Chess School in 2007 where Mr.Prasanna Rao and Mr.Derik Pinto motivated him a lot into the game of chess for about 7 years.He was state champion in the age category of 7,9,11,13 and 15 continuously. Sharan took a break from chess and concentrated into school studies in St.Theresa and PU in canara college.

He was a silver medalist in SGFI.. He won Karnataka state open fide championship in 2021,Karnataka state open blitz championship in 2022 and karnataka state open rapid championship in 2023.He was working on his own while he was pursuing his engineering degree in NITK Surathkal. He is currently working in his own academy “Rao’s Chess Corner” where he coaches students and tries to make their aims successful.
