Mysuru: Twenty-seven girl students of Morarji Desai Residential School, who were hospitalized on suspicion of food poisoning on Monday, were discharged from Cheluvamba Hospital on Tuesday.

It is learnt that the inmates of the Morarji Desai Residential School at Doddanakundi in Jayapura Hobli in Mysuru district found a lizard in the hostel food on Monday evening.

Fortunately, except a few students none of them had consumed food. But, due to psychological fear many students were disturbed. “After they came to normal condition students were discharged from the hospital,” said District Health Officer Dr H T Puttaswamy.

Following the incident, Zilla Panchayat president Pushpa Amarnath convened a meeting at the school and recommended transfer of school staff members. According to her Varun, school principal is on leave without obtaining prior permission from the department. He is on leave since February 18 and cannot be contacted, she stated.

“I have recommended to the authorities concerned to transfer a few staff and hostel warden Prasanna Kumar for their negligence,” she said.

On the other hand Muyusu taluk BEO Vivekananda said the school is  run by the Directorate of Minorities department and he has no powers to act on staff members.

Later, the ZP president convened a meeting with education department officials, parents of students, local leaders, social welfare department and concerned department authorities and school authorities at school on Tuesday.

At the meeting the parents made several complaints against school authorities.  The ZP will act seriously on the issue, the president said.
