Mysuru: Zilla Panchayat President Dr. Pushpa Amarnath paid  a visit to the tribal village of Mahadevpura on Monday morning. She came across issues with ration cards and land encroachment complaints from the residents of the area.

Looking at the situation, she has ordered a door-to-door survey to be conducted, to check how much of the Government’s facilities are reaching the people. People complained of not getting basic facilities like water, power supply and basic sanitation.

The people of the village are unaware of how to get approval for their ration cards through SMS services and when they go to officials they are spurned.

They also complained about 10 acres of land that has been encroached, the officials say that the matter will have to discussed in court.

On the issue regarding health of tribal people she instructed the medical officers to visit every tribe once in a week but the officers raised the problem of shortage of funds to provide the required services  as only 4000/-  has been given for the only medical vehicle which has to cover 54 tribes in Hunsur taluk alone.

People requested to provide cattle and daily works from Govt plans which can provide daily meal for the family but officers complained that people from tribes wont turn up when they are called as the pay is very less compared to other works.

The PDO and Village accountant have been asked to conduct the door to door survey and the ZP President has said that she will visit the area again in 3 months to see what work has been completed.

Dr. Amaranath was also highly annoyed when CHESCOM officials did not visit the area and spoke to her about the situation only on the phone.

Concluding, the president said in order to get the confidence of tribal people a research team will be introduced which will work with tribes and create awareness in all sectors, primarily, health and education, which is must.

Future plans like implementing the erection of solar lights, purifying water unit in every tribal village and improving the medical services  is the goal, and she said that ” for this there is no problem with the fund as the budget proposal is made for about 192 crores from which these plans can be implemented for the betterment of tribes”.

Lastly every child from tribe should pass 10th and eradicating child marriage  in the tribes is the main goal for which she needs support from all tribes and officers as well. She accepted the fact that present problems are because of miscommunication and negligence of officers which will be rectified soon.
