Mysuru: The Zilla Panchayat on Thursday had organized a programme to express their appreciation towards teachers of government high schools in the district for securing the tenth place with regard to performance of students in SSLC exams this year.
The Mysuru district was in the 23rd place last year, and the tremendous performance was admired by the district administration.
Addressing the teachers, Deputy Director of Public Instruction H R Basappa said, “With the cooperation of education officers, teachers and the Zilla Panchayat the district has come to the position of the 10th place in the state with regard to SSLC results. However, we have to set a target at securing the fifth place. So we all have to work collectively towards it.”
“Various programmes taken up by the ZP such as ‘Chinthana Manthana’ for the improvement of education in government schools has finally borne results,” he added.
“This academic year i.e. 2014-15, the district has achieved 89.13 percent. Out of 40, 215 students who appeared for the SSLC exams, 35,844 students have passed (including both boys and girls). As many as 23 schools have secured 100 percent results,” said education officer Nagaraj.
Also, speaking on the occasion President of Commerce and Industry Standing Committee of Zilla Panchayat C T Rajanna said, “The success of the district in SSLC results should be attributed to team work of teachers. Their hard work is laudable. I request the ZP CEO to divide schools into three categories: schools in towns, rural and under developed villages. Let us provide more benefits for schools in backward villages.”
“To mark the success, I propose to host a lunch for the teachers next month,” he added.
Zilla Panchayat President Dr B Pushpavathi Amaranath presided over the programme.
Block Education Officer of K R Nagar Revanna said, “Headmasters of schools have worked like commanders encouraging teachers to work together as a team thus securing good results in SSLC. Despite shortage of teachers for science, mathematics and English the students have fared well.”
Subject inspector of DDPIs’ office Lingaraju, Vice President of ZP L Madappa, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) PA Gopal, President of ZP Health and Education Standing Committee Rajaiah, Accounts Officer of ZP, Ravikumar, Block Education Officers of nine zones in the district, headmasters of 232 highs schools in the district were present.
