Mysuru: In order to provide drinking water in the district, especially to the rural areas, a project worth Rs 41.82 crores has been proposed to the state government, said Zilla Panchayat CEO P A Gopal.
He was speaking at the quarterly development review meeting, which was held after a five month gap with full attendance here on Monday.

Hunsur MLA H P Manjunath who brought up the issue said, people at taluks and villages are already suffering without proper water facility. “Nobody in the state government has an answer to their problems. The underground level for water is also deteriorating day by day. We are not getting water even after digging the 500ft. It is necessary to bring a task force and also to get sanction of funds to dig borewells”.
Responding to this attack, P A Gopal said, “presently there are water problems are in Yelwala, Jayapura, Kavalande and at many villages. We have submitted a proposal to the government for the supply of water.
Revenue and district in-charge minister Srinivas Prasad who conducted the meeting asked about the developments after merging irrigation and agriculture department. The last time quarterly meeting was held under the presidentship of chief minister Siddaramaiah.
Responding to it, joint director of agricultural department said, after the merge of departments, that there will be one assistant executive officer for 2 or 3 grama Panchayat. Previously ( before merger) there was just one AEO for a hobli. With the merger, it will be helpful to do field works. He also said that the district has achieved satisfactory level in agricultural output.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA of Hunsur H P Manjunath said, the district will have to make preparations for the summer as there are signs of drought in the district. The district may face problems in supply of drinking water. He suggested that the issue be taken up immediately to counter it in future.
