Mysuru: After conducting International Yoga Day celebration, the district administration with its Yoga Dasara Committee will be conducting Yoga Dasara that includes state level Yoga competition on September 21, 24 and 26. During the three-day event, more than 10,000 Yoga enthusiasts from across the state are expected to take part.
G Jagadeesh, Commissioner, Mysuru City Corporation who is also the Deputy Special Officer for Yoga Dasara Sub Committee said, “On September 21, as part of the inaugural function, Yoga Jyothi from four different directions will converge at University of Mysore Athletic Ground (Oval Ground) where the three-day event will be inaugurated by District Minister H C Mahadevappa at 6 pm. More than 4000 yoga enthusiasts, 1000 from each direction will take part in Yoga Jyothi event. On the occasion, the minister will also be releasing a book on Yoga.”
“On September 24 at ‘Yogothsava’ more than 5000 Yoga enthusiasts are expected to perform eight different Asanas at Mysuru Palace premise between 6 am and 8am. On the occasion, a book called ‘Common Yoga Protocol’ which guides the people to perform common Yoga practices in their day to day life will also be released. On the same day at Kote Anjaneya swamy temple premise, a state level Yoga competition for both men and women will be held from 9 am to 5 pm. The competition will be held in eight different age group categories–8 to 11 years, 11 to 14 years, 14-18, 18-25, 25-35, 35-45, 45-60 and 60 plus age group categories. The winners in each event will be given cash prizes and attractive trophies.”
On 26 September, Yoga Charana and Yoga Namaskara will be held. The Yoga enthusiasts will climb the steps of Chamundi Hill and later after reaching the top through more than 1000 footsteps, they will perform Namaskara which will also serve as concluding function for the Yoga Dasara event. More than 2000 people are expected to take part in this programme.
