Mysuru: If the permanent teaching posts are not filled at the earliest, University of Mysore may face derecognition from University Grants Commission (UGC), said UoM Vice-Chancellor Rangappa. While there are 660 permanent teaching posts in UoM, only 120 are occupied.

The Vice-Chancellor informed that 660 teaching posts were sanctioned in 1980 when there were just 24 departments. “There are 75 different departments now, but the sanctioned posts remain the same. We are finding it difficult to not only fill the permanent posts, but also the temporary posts. If we go by student-teacher ratio that is 1:40, we need more than 1000 teachers. Though the governor has asked us to go ahead with the appointments, we are not getting the green signal from the government. Now if the government tells to go ahead with the recruitment, due to hectic schedule, it will not be possible for me to conduct the recruitment process,” he said. Rangappa will be retiring from service on January 11.

Date for releasing Centenary coin to be decided after December 21

Regarding the release of the Centenary coin, Rangappa said that as Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah dates didn’t coincide the date for the release has been put off for now. Apart from this, the officials from Venkaiah Naidu’s department too requested for helicopter facility which could be arranged after taking permission through syndicate meeting. Hence, we have decided to postpone the releaseand decide the date after December 21, said Rangappa.
