Mysuru: As water at the Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) reservoir is drying up, water scarcity is looming large over Bengaluru and Mysuru region.
The reservoir is a lifeline for both Mysuru and Bengaluru and Mandya residents.
As compared to last year the Mercury touched 40 degrees this week. The temperature is expected to rise in April and June. As a precautionary measure, Mysuru district-in-charge minister has asked officials to be prepared to tackle water crisis.
Other than Mysuru, Bengaluru, Mandya regions like Chamarajanagar and Kodagu are expected to suffer intense heat and face drought soon.Farmer are distressed and several have ended lives over agrarian crisis, now the present situation will lead to drinking water scarcity too.
The water level at KRS reservoir has drastically come down to 86.84 ft as compared to 104 ft in 2015. The total capacity of the reservoir is 49.45 tmc and it had 26.24 tmc water at this time. But it has come down to 14.14 tmc.
Last year heavy rains lashed across Kodagu and the KRS reservior was full with maximum inflow into the dam. But this year due to less rain, the dam did not fill to the full capacity, hence the people in Bengaluru and Mysuru are expected to witness water scarcity soon.
