Mysuru: JSS Science and Technology University, the second University of JSS Mahavidyapetha will be inaugurated by Vice President M Hamid Ansari on July 23. Once the university is inaugurated, Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE) will be a part of JSS Science and Technology University, said BG Sangameshwar who has been appointed as the Vice chancellor of the University.
JSS Science and Technology University is one of the recent additions to the institutions administered by JSS Mahavidyapeetha and is the second University being established besides its JSS University by JSS Mahavidyapeetha. “The main objective of the University is to be innovative, be self-reliant, outward-facing institution committed to define the future. We aim to be a research-led university and each of the departments will focus on research and more emphasis will be on Inter disciplinary research. Already we have memorandum of understanding with nine to ten MNC companies, more such MOUs will be taken up in the days to come. Apart from this we will also be signing MOU with various foreign universities,” said Sangameshwar. He also mentioned that the students and faculty members of the university are also ready to help the local government in technology related aspects.
“Our main focus will be on nternationalization and also making relevant the academic programme with respect to social and technological issues. There are complaints that majority of engineering students across the country even after completion of their respective engineering courses are not industry fit or job fit. Hence keeping this in mind, before coming out with the curriculum, we have decided to take opinion of industrial experts, so that students once they complete the course are industry fit or meet the expectation of industries. The university will take teaching to a next level by emphasizing collaborative approach with industry through use of latest technologies and current trends,” he added.
“As per the act, as it is unitary system, SJCE will be part of the university for five years and later Science and other streams may be a part of the university. Students getting admitted from this academic year will receive their degrees from the university, while students pursuing Engineering and other technical courses in 2nd, 3rd year and final year will get their degrees from Visveshvaraya Technological University (VTU),” informed Sangameshwar.
Foundation for University Academic block
Foundation stone for the university academic block with 30,000 sqmtr at a cost of Rs 105 crore will come up soon. Once the work starts, the building is expected to coming up 18 months’ time.
CM Siddaramaiah to launch new website
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will be launching the website of the new university. The website will contain all details about the new university.
Fifth university in Mysuru
JSS Science and Technology University will be the fifth university in Mysuru after University of Mysore, Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), Dr Gangubai Hanagal Music and Performing Arts University, JSS University.
School of Design
From the next academic year, JSS will also start School of Design through which they will be conducting Architecture, Interior Design and fashion technology courses. MBA in Corporate Finance will begin from this academic year.
Inauguration will be held in the presence of Jagadguru Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji, Governor Vajubhai Vala, Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddy, District and PWD Minister HC Mahadevappa, Mayor Bhyrappa, MP Pratap Simha and MLA Vasu.
