Vastra Utsav 2017 to begin on July 21

Mysuru: After receiving an overwhelming response for Gujarat Handicraft Utsav, JSS Mysore Urban Haat of JSS Mahavidyapeeth on the occasion of Varamaha Lakshmi festival will be organizing a “Vastra Utsav 2017” at JSS Urban Haat from July 21 to August 6. This year for the first time Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation Ltd (KSIC) will also be putting their stalls.

Speaking to Newskarnataka Shivananja Swamy, Project Officer, JSS Mysore Urban Haat said, “The Varamahalakshmi festival has become a regional festival, every women worships Goddess Lakshmi with utmost devotion offering sweets and flowers, usually a kalash (representing the deity) will be decorated with a saree, flowers and gold jewelery with offerings are placed in front.Keeping this in mind, more than 60 weavers/ societies /master artisans of our country have accepted the invitation to participate in the exhibition. Last year, there were nearly 50 stalls, this year due to more demand we have increased the number of stalls to 70 and more than 80 artisans including national and even international award winning artisans will be seen in action”.

“The creative producers of textile, handloom and crafts will exhibit, demonstrate and sell their rich art and crafts like cotton and silk sarees, Lehenga Choli (skirt and blouse), Bandhani (Tie & Dye), Embroidery, Plain dyed, Printed, Beaded, Garment dyed, Embroidered Dress materials, Salwar Suit, Ethnic Zari Work sarees and dresses, towels, bed spreads, bed Sheets, Chudidar, Clay articles, Patch work, bead work, Terracotta, Warli painting and eco-friendly jewellery items” added Shivananja Swamy.

The entry is free for the public and Utsav will be open for public everyday from 10am to 9pm.
