Mysuru: On the occasion of Varamahalaxmi, JSS Mysore Urban Haat will be hosting, ‘Vastra Utsav-2016’, a 10-day handloom exhibition at its premise in Hebbal from July 29. It is an opportunity for people to buy various kinds of Indian Handlooms including rural handicrafts which are made available under one roof directly from weavers and artisans.
M Shivananjaswami, Project Officer, JSS Urban Haat, Mysuru said, “The main intention behind organizing ‘Vastra Utsav-2016’ is to encourage weavers and artisans, local Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Stree-Shakthi sanghas, Khadi Gramodyoga, local Small Scale Industries (SSIs) as well as cottage industries to sell their products by providing a suitable marketing outlet. There will also be discount on some of the products. Nearly 100 artisans from across the country including the national award winners will be a part of the expo”.
Various products including pure silk sarees like Molakalnooru silk sarees, Ilakal sarees, Kasuthi sarees, Kanzivaram silk sarees, Dharmavara silk sarees, Organic tassar silk sarees, creap silk, Arini silk, Paithani sarees, Patiala dress materials, sambalpuri, Gicha saree, Kantha, Moga and Eri silk sarees, Chinon silk, Pashmina shawls, Handblock printed kurtas, Pochampalli sarees, Gadwal, Handloom dresses, Silk and Cotton sarees, ready-made dress materials, household articles, designer handbags, artificial jewelleries, pottery items, leather and wooden toys and dolls, rosaries made of Rudrakshi and other beads, ornaments worn by tribals, Chennapatna dolls, pitchers made of mud, flower pots and various other decorative items will be displayed during the ten day expo. The expo will have more than 60 stalls.
The expo will be inaugurated by Nirmala Mathapathi, Deputy Director, Rangayana on July 29 at 4pm. BR Umakanth, Joint Director, JSS Technical Education division will preside. Entry to the expo is free for the public and it will be open between 10am and 9pm. The expo will conclude on August 7.
